New Delhi, February 21: The Indian Youth Congress attempted to justify its shirtless protest by sharing an image of Mahatma Gandhi on the social media platform X, following the ‘shirtless’ demonstration at the India AI Impact Summit 2026.
In their post, the organization stated, “We are descendants of Gandhi. Shirtless or not, we fought yesterday and will continue to fight.”
Another post on X read, “When power refuses to listen, the youth rise.”
The Youth Congress criticized the central government in another message, questioning, “When they protest, it’s patriotism. When we protest, it’s ‘national shame’?”
On Friday, Youth Congress activists staged a protest inside the Bharat Mandapam in the national capital during the high-profile summit. They chanted slogans against the central government and Prime Minister Narendra Modi over issues like unemployment, inflation, and the India-U.S. trade agreement.
Witnesses reported that some protesters removed their shirts and posed for photos while chanting slogans in front of the summit’s display board. Security personnel quickly intervened, detaining the protesters and escorting them out to prevent any disruption to the international event.
