Indian Womens Cricket Team Shines in Asia Cup with Record-Breaking Performances

New Delhi, September 4 (Daily Kiran) : The Indian women’s cricket team is making waves at the Asia Cup in Dubai. After securing two consecutive victories, they have clinched a spot in the semifinals. Their next challenge is a match against Pakistan in the group stage. On Thursday, India triumphed over Hong Kong, winning by 137 runs.

Batting first, India posted an impressive total of 193 runs for the loss of five wickets in 20 overs. Hong Kong struggled to keep up, collapsing to 56 runs in just 16.2 overs. A key contributor to this victory was Shree Charni, who excelled with the ball.

The left-arm spinner took two wickets, conceding only 16 runs in 3.2 overs. Meanwhile, Deepti Sharma also shone with the ball, claiming three wickets, while Nandini Sharma and Prema Rawat each took two wickets.

Shree Charni’s performance allowed her to surpass Deepti Sharma in the list of Indian bowlers with the most T20 wickets in a year. As of now, Charni has taken 31 T20 wickets in 2026, compared to Sharma’s 30 in 2024 and 29 in 2022.

The record for the most T20 wickets in a year by an Indian woman is held by Poonam Yadav, who achieved 35 wickets in 2018. Charni is well-positioned to break this record, with a strong possibility of doing so in the ongoing Asia Cup.

The highlight of the match against Hong Kong was Smriti Mandhana’s explosive century. Mandhana scored 124 runs off 64 balls, hitting seven sixes and 14 fours. This innings marked her second T20 century and the 18th of her international career, making her the leading century-maker in women’s international cricket.
