Indian Team Ready for T20 World Cup Semifinal Against England, Says Coach Ashok Aswalakar

Mumbai, March 5: The Indian cricket team is set to face England in the second semifinal of the T20 World Cup 2026 on March 5, hosted at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. India secured its spot in the semifinals by defeating the West Indies in a crucial Super-8 match. Meanwhile, England has advanced to the final four after winning all its Super-8 matches. Ashok Aswalakar, coach of star player Suryakumar Yadav, believes that the Indian team will not feel any pressure in the semifinal.

In an interview with a news agency, Aswalakar emphasized that the match against the West Indies was more critical for the team, as it determined their semifinal qualification. He expressed confidence that Indian players would play freely against England and enjoy the match.

Domestic cricketer Gurinder Singh mentioned that players like Abhishek Sharma, Varun Chakravarthy, Suryakumar Yadav, and Jasprit Bumrah are expected to deliver strong performances in the semifinal. He noted that the team has learned from its defeat against South Africa in the tournament. Former IPL player Karanveer Singh stated that the current Indian T20 team is among the best in the world and expressed hope that they would overcome England in the semifinal.

It is worth mentioning that India defeated England by 68 runs in the semifinals of the T20 World Cup 2024. However, in the 2022 T20 World Cup semifinal, England triumphed over India by 10 wickets. Historically, India has a strong record against England in the shortest format of cricket. Out of 19 T20 matches played between the two teams, India has won 17, while England has claimed victory in 12. The Indian team has reached the finals of the T20 World Cup twice, and under Suryakumar Yadav’s leadership, they have a golden opportunity to make history.
