Indian Saints Welcome Italys Burqa Ban Proposal, Advocate for Similar Law in India

Saints in Haridwar applaud Italys proposal to ban burqas and veils, urging similar legislation in India for womens rights and safety.

Haridwar, September 23 (Daily Kiran) : Saints in Haridwar have expressed their support for Italy’s recent proposal to ban burqas and veils. They describe the initiative as commendable and courageous, advocating for its implementation in India as well.

Speaking on Wednesday, Saint Karoli Shankar praised Italy’s Prime Minister for making a decision that benefits women. He emphasized that such legislation should be considered in India as well.

He questioned the rationale behind covering children with veils and burqas, noting that the country is progressing into the 21st century. Today’s Generation Z and children are fighting for their identity, and many do not wish to live under constraints. He argued that hiding one’s face serves no purpose and questioned what crime necessitates such concealment.

Shankar also highlighted security concerns, stating that individuals sometimes wear burqas to commit crimes, allowing men to escape detection by disguising themselves as women. He called for a discussion on the appropriateness of wearing veils and burqas to protect both women’s rights and public safety.

While he acknowledged the importance of personal choice in attire, he asserted that any clothing must meet security standards. He stressed that no one should interfere with an individual’s right to choose their clothing, but he also pointed out that the wearing of burqas and veils could negatively impact schoolchildren.

He advocated for a uniform dress code in schools, stating that students should wear designated school attire while on campus. Outside of school or after marriage, women should be free to wear what they choose.

Shankar argued that having different religious attire in schools can lead to confusion and a sense of division among students. Therefore, he believes India should adopt regulations ensuring that students do not wear burqas or veils to school, but rather attend in standard school uniforms.
