
Imphal, August 5: Indian Navy FT bounced back from an initial defeat with an impressive performance, defeating the North Eastern Re-organizing Cultural Association (Neroca FC) 2-0 in a Group D match of the 135th Durand Cup at the Khuman Lampak Main Stadium on Wednesday.
Roshan Panna scored the first goal for Indian Navy FT in the first half. E. Muhammad Inayat secured the victory with a second goal after the interval. This win brought Indian Navy three points from two matches, placing them second in Group D standings. Meanwhile, Neroca FC remains at the bottom of the table with just one point from their opening two matches.
Despite challenging ground conditions, the match was played at a fast pace. Both teams applied significant pressure, denying each other time and space in midfield.
The intense midfield battle resulted in a lack of early opportunities. The first shot on goal came from right-back Maibam Denny Singh, but it was unsuccessful.
Neroca FC nearly equalized around the 20th minute with a promising move down the right flank. Nagathem Emerson Meitei combined well with Modou M’bengue, who made a brilliant run into the penalty area.
Indian Navy took the lead midway through the first half when Roshan Panna skillfully deceived the advancing goalkeeper and calmly slotted the ball into an empty net. Five minutes later, a long-range shot from Vijay was saved by the goalkeeper.
The remainder of the first half was well-managed by Indian Navy, who maintained control of the ball for most of the time. Neroca FC was largely limited to delivering crosses, which the Navy defense handled comfortably.
Indian Navy created the first good opportunity of the second half with another attacking move. Zahid Khan delivered a brilliant pass to Vijay Marandi in midfield, but the forward failed to hit the target, sending his left-footed shot wide of the post.
Indian Navy continued to control the game in midfield through sustained possession. Muhammad Inayat regularly ventured into the central area, providing additional passing options alongside Edarsh Mattumal and Emmanuel Lalchhanhchua. The Navy doubled their lead in the second half thanks to a stunning goal from Muhammad Inayat. Neroca FC had their best chance in the 82nd minute but failed to convert. Ultimately, Indian Navy secured a 2-0 victory.
