New Delhi, February 14: In a striking statement, Samajwadi Party (SP) MP Virendra Singh has labeled the upcoming T20 World Cup match between India and Pakistan as merely a business transaction. The match is set to take place on February 15 in Colombo, Sri Lanka.
Speaking in New Delhi, Singh emphasized that this event is not a genuine sporting contest but rather a commercial arrangement. He noted that both nations are managing the game based on profit and loss. Reports suggest that tickets for the match are being sold for as much as 250,000 rupees each, leading to a decline in public trust regarding the event.
On the topic of the India-U.S. trade deal, Singh urged the government to make the complete list of agricultural products eligible for zero-tariff imports public. He stressed the need for transparency regarding which items will incur an 18 percent tariff, as the current situation appears confusing. Discrepancies in statements from government ministers only add to this confusion.
Regarding Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s comments about Shankaracharya, Singh criticized the BJP for claiming to uphold Sanatan values while failing to address pressing issues in the state. He accused the government of attempting to control who can be recognized as Shankaracharya, warning that this could backfire. He believes that the true strength of Sanatan followers will be evident in the upcoming Uttar Pradesh assembly elections.
Concerning the ‘Seva Tirth’, Singh expressed that the term should signify a place accessible to the public for spiritual fulfillment. He urged the Prime Minister to open doors for the common people, stating that without their consent, no public representative should be allowed to enter. He dismissed the use of the term ‘Tirth’ as a mere mockery.
It is noteworthy that the Indian cricket team has already arrived in Colombo, preparing for the match against Pakistan on February 15.
