Dhaka, April 6: Indian High Commissioner Pranay Verma met with Prime Minister Tariq Rahman on Monday for a courtesy visit. According to a release from the Bangladesh Prime Minister’s Office, the meeting took place at the Prime Minister’s office within the Bangladesh Secretariat.
During their discussion, both leaders addressed issues related to the interests of India and Bangladesh. Bangladesh’s Foreign Minister Dr. Khalilur Rahman and the Prime Minister’s foreign affairs advisor Humayun Kabir were also present at the meeting.
The Indian Embassy in Bangladesh shared on the social media platform X that “High Commissioner Pranay Verma had a courtesy meeting with Honorable Prime Minister Tariq Rahman on April 6, 2026. Both leaders discussed bilateral dialogue focusing on people-centered cooperation in various areas linked to India-Bangladesh national development priorities.”
The embassy further stated that the High Commissioner expressed India’s intention to work collaboratively with the Bangladesh government and its people, adopting a positive, constructive, and forward-looking approach based on mutual interests and benefits.
Earlier, during the Eid celebrations, High Commissioner Pranay Verma had also met with PM Tariq Rahman. Subsequently, the Indian High Commission in Bangladesh shared on X that “High Commissioner Pranay Verma warmly exchanged Eid greetings with Prime Minister His Excellency Tariq Rahman in Dhaka.”
Additionally, Bangladeshi media outlet The Daily Star reported that India has expressed its willingness to work with the new government of Bangladesh to enhance bilateral trade, economic, and investment relations.
In fact, earlier in March, High Commissioner Pranay Verma met with Commerce Minister Khan Daker Abdul Mukti in Dhaka. During this meeting, the Indian High Commissioner highlighted the importance of collaboration between the two governments in areas such as bilateral trade, economic, and investment relations.
