Indian Health Secretary to Launch Nationwide Fire Safety Week on May 4

New Delhi, May 4: The Central Health Secretary, Punya Salila Srivastava, will inaugurate the All-India ‘Fire Safety Week’ on Monday, in collaboration with all states, union territories, and central ministries. This initiative aims to raise awareness about fire hazards.

The ‘Fire Safety Week,’ observed from May 4 to May 10, will kick off a series of awareness and preparedness activities nationwide. During the inauguration ceremony, the Health Secretary will administer an oath on ‘Fire Safety in Health Facilities.’ This will confirm the commitment of all stakeholders to strictly adhere to fire safety standards, enhance preparedness, and promote a culture of safety within health institutions.

Throughout the week, states and union territories will conduct various activities, including awareness campaigns, mock drills, and capacity-building initiatives.

Additionally, the dissemination of fire safety protocols will be part of these activities, aimed at sensitizing health personnel and administrators about fire prevention, emergency response, and evacuation procedures. The Fire Safety Week underscores the Health Ministry’s commitment to ensuring the safety of patients, healthcare workers, and critical infrastructure by promoting a robust fire safety mechanism and a culture of preparedness across all levels of the healthcare delivery system.

Earlier, in a significant move to strengthen child health services in the country, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare recently released the National Child Health Program (RBSK) 2.0 guidelines at a national summit.

These guidelines were issued based on best practices and innovations discussed at the recently concluded national summit on public health service delivery. The RBSK 2.0 guidelines represent a significant advancement in India’s leading child health screening program, expanding its scope to address emerging child health priorities based on over a decade of implementation.
