Moscow, August 24: Indian Foreign Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar met with Russian President Vladimir Putin on Monday in Moscow. During the meeting, Jaishankar conveyed Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s best wishes to President Putin.
According to a statement from the Kremlin, the meeting highlighted the longstanding relationship between Russia and India. Both nations are collaborating across various sectors, including government relations, parliamentary ties, and economic cooperation.
Amidst a rise in India-Russia trade turnover, Putin expressed his satisfaction, stating, “I am pleased to see that our trade turnover has increased this year. There was a slight decline last year, but this year it is on the rise, largely due to Prime Minister Modi’s personal attention to enhancing India-Russia relations.”
Putin also mentioned, “At the start of our discussions, I would like to ask you to convey my best wishes to Prime Minister Modi. I hope we will meet him soon, as planned within the framework of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization. Our schedule suggests we might meet again this year.”
The Russian President noted that Foreign Minister Jaishankar and Russia’s First Deputy Prime Minister Denis Manturov, who leads the Russian side of the Intergovernmental Commission, have already discussed critical issues.
He stated, “There are many issues on the agenda. One is not just energy; it also includes fertilizer supply. We are doing everything to resolve this issue for Indian farmers. We are increasing these supplies and are ready to continue doing so, along with cooperation in nuclear energy, high-tech sectors, and other related areas.”
Dr. Jaishankar began his address by saying, “First of all, I would like to extend a warm greeting from Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He has given me a directive, a message that I wish to convey to you.”
He added, “This morning, we had our Intergovernmental Commission meeting. I have a very good report to share regarding our economic cooperation, nuclear energy, fertilizers, and more. I will elaborate on this. I want to emphasize that our economic collaboration has significantly increased.”
Dr. Jaishankar further stated that Prime Minister Modi looks forward to meeting you at the SCO summit and hopes you will have the opportunity to participate in the BRICS summit and host this annual meeting. “We truly have a strong bilateral cooperation, and I thank you for this honor.”
The meeting was attended by Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, Denis Manturov, President Putin’s aide Yuri Ushakov, India’s Ambassador to Russia Vinay Kumar, and other officials.
