
Tashkent, May 12: The Indian girls have continued to impress at the 2026 Asian Boxing Under-17 Championship. Held in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, eight boxers have reached the finals, while four others secured bronze medals after a strong semifinal performance.
In the 46 kg category, Rakhi achieved a remarkable victory against China’s Yating Zhang, winning by referee stop contest (RSC) in the third round. Similarly, Khushi Chand dominated the 48 kg category, defeating Mongolia’s Mungunjul Altamgadasa with a decisive 5:0 score.
In the 52 kg category, Mamta Murali Raut faced a setback, losing 0:5 to China’s Yaxin Qiu. Lakshmi Manjunath Lamani (54 kg) also encountered defeat, falling 1:4 to Uzbekistan’s Kumariniso Muhammadova.
Navya advanced to the finals in the 57 kg category, winning against Mongolia’s Dagimaa Chulutumur by RSC in the second round. However, Ishika narrowly lost 2:3 to Kazakhstan’s Balyam Gabitkizi in a tough match at 60 kg. In the 63 kg category, Diya secured a one-sided victory against Chinese Taipei’s Jia-An Song by RSC in the first round.
In the 66 kg category, Harnoor Kaur was defeated 0:5 by Kazakhstan’s Ayauilim Ospanova. In the 70 kg category, Himanshi triumphed over Jordan’s Jude Habib by RSC in the first round. Jyoti also advanced in the 75 kg category, winning against Chinese Taipei’s Cheng-Hui Ju by RSC in the first round. Vanshika claimed victory in the 80 kg category, defeating Uzbekistan’s Feruzabonu Kamolova 4:1. Finally, Gurkirat Kaur secured her place in the finals of the 80+ kg category with an RSC win over Chinese Taipei’s Shin-Ying Huang in the first round.
On the boys’ side, Indian boxers in the Under-15 category delivered an impressive performance in the semifinals. Six boxers reached the finals, and seven claimed bronze medals. In the 33 kg category, Yash Kumar achieved a stunning 5:0 victory over the UAE’s Kian Iqbal to secure his spot in the finals. Sastha Vasant Ashok Kumar (37 kg) also advanced, winning by referee decision against Kyrgyzstan’s Ajiretali Sanjarbekov in the second round.
