
Ulaanbaatar, April 5: The Indian women’s boxing team continued its impressive performance on the seventh day of the 2026 Asian Boxing Championship in Mongolia. Meenakshi and Jasmine secured their spots in the semifinals with decisive victories.
In the morning session, both Meenakshi and Jasmine won by unanimous decision. All remaining Indian female boxers have reached the semifinals, guaranteeing them medals. Meanwhile, Lokesh, Akash, and Harsh Chaudhary also advanced to the semifinals with their wins. A total of six Indian male boxers have secured medals in the tournament.
In the women’s 48 kg category, Meenakshi delivered a confident and powerful performance, defeating Japan’s Yuka Sadamatsu with a unanimous score of 5-0. She showcased her quick combinations and excellent ring awareness during the match. Similarly, Jasmine demonstrated her strength in the 57 kg category, overpowering China’s Yi Chen with a decisive 5-0 victory to secure her semifinal spot. So far, Indian women have maintained an impeccable streak, with every boxer winning a medal, reflecting the team’s strength and reliability on a continental level.
In the men’s category, Lokesh (85 kg) advanced to the next round with a commanding 5-0 victory over Korea’s Gichae Kim. He displayed control and precision throughout the match. Akash also achieved a remarkable 5-0 win against Turkmenistan’s Yhlas Bagtiyarov. Additionally, Harsh Chaudhary performed well, defeating Kyrgyzstan’s Tiniston Alibayev to secure his place in the semifinals.
Currently, six Indian male boxers are in the semifinals, showcasing the team’s strong overall performance across various categories. However, Ankush (80 kg) was eliminated after losing to Jordan’s Hussein Ishayesh. India’s campaign in the Asian Championship is gaining momentum, with several semifinal matches still to come.
Earlier on Saturday, Ankushita Boro achieved a decisive 4-1 victory against Kazakhstan’s Laura Yesenkeldi in the women’s 65 kg category. She will now face Chinese Taipei’s Nien-Chin Chen in a crucial semifinal match. Chen is the gold medalist from the 2025 World Boxing Finals and a bronze medalist from the Paris 2024 Olympics.
