Indian Bowlers Set Unwanted Record in T20 Match Against New Zealand

In a historic match, Indian bowlers conceded over 40 runs each, marking a first in T20 history against New Zealand.

Christchurch, October 22 (Daily Kiran) : In a remarkable T20 International match held at Hagley Oval, Christchurch, on October 22, India faced New Zealand. Batting first, New Zealand posted a formidable total of 225 runs, losing four wickets in the process. Unfortunately for India, the performance of their bowlers was disappointing, leading to an unwanted record.

For the first time in T20 International cricket history, five Indian bowlers conceded 40 runs or more in a single match. Bhuvneshwar Kumar, making a return to the team after four years, gave away 49 runs in his four-over spell. Arshdeep Singh followed closely, allowing 45 runs while taking one wicket. Mayank Yadav also contributed to the high totals with 40 runs in four overs. Axar Patel was the most expensive bowler, yielding 51 runs while claiming one wicket, and Nitish Kumar Reddy ended his four overs with 40 runs without taking a wicket. Each Indian bowler had an economy rate exceeding 10.

New Zealand’s Glenn Phillips was in exceptional form, scoring an unbeaten 82 runs off 40 balls, which included eight fours and three sixes. Finn Allen added 45 runs from just 24 balls, and together with Phillips, they forged a rapid fourth-wicket partnership of 73 runs off just 32 balls. Jacob’s contribution was notable as well, scoring 31 runs from 16 balls with three sixes.

Daryl Mitchell chipped in with 28 runs from 19 balls, while Tim Seifert scored 24 runs off 17 balls, hitting three fours and a six. New Zealand’s total of 225 runs equaled their highest score against India in T20 Internationals, previously set earlier this year in Thiruvananthapuram. It also marks the highest T20 score recorded at Hagley Oval.
