New Delhi : India has registered 2,64,202 new Covid-19 cases, a jump of 6.7 per cent from Thursday, the Health Ministry said on Friday. Maharashtra topped the list, followed by Delhi, Karnataka, West Bengal and Tamil Nadu.
Covid-19 The country saw the positivity rate of the infection surge from 9.8 per cent on January 8 to close to 15 per cent on Friday.
The active cases comprise 3.48 per cent of the total infection while the national recovery rate has decreased to 95.20 per cent.
On January 1, the country recorded 27,553 fresh cases which more than doubled by January 4 to 58,097.
A total 315 deaths were reported, taking the total fatality count to 4,85,350.
The active caseload currently stands at 12,72,073 while 1,09,345 people have recovered, taking the total recoveries to 3,48,24,706.
The daily and weekly positivity rate was recorded at 14.78 per cent and 11.83 per cent respectively.
Covid-19 Meanwhile, India’s Omicron tally on Thursday reached 5,753, an increase of 4.83 per cent since Thursday.
Delhi reported 28,867 fresh Covid cases and 31 deaths. The positivity rate in the city stands at 29.21 per cent.
There are currently 94,160 active cases in the city, of whom 2,424 persons are admitted to hospitals.
Earlier, Delhi Health Minister Satyendar Jain said the hospital admission rate for Covid-19 has stabilised, which indicates that coronavirus cases may go down soon.
The Ministry said that India has administered 155.39 doses of vaccine under the ongoing vaccination drive.
