Hyderabad, February 23: Union Minister for Communications Jyotiraditya Scindia announced on Sunday that trust in India Post remains strong, with over 380 million savings accounts currently active across the nation.
Speaking at a conference in Guntur district, Andhra Pradesh, which was attended by Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, the minister emphasized the role of postal employees in enhancing financial inclusion and last-mile connectivity.
Scindia highlighted that rural postal workers play a crucial role in connecting rural communities and providing essential communication and financial services. He described them as a vital link between the government and rural citizens, facilitating services in remote and underserved areas.
Stressing the scale of India Post’s financial network, the minister noted that there are currently more than 380 million Post Office Savings Bank accounts, holding approximately ₹22 trillion in deposits.
He stated that the postal network is pivotal in expanding access to banking and financial services, particularly in rural and semi-urban regions.
In light of the growing demand for e-commerce, MSMEs, and agricultural exports, India Post is modernizing its logistics and parcel delivery capabilities. Scindia mentioned that with a network of over 165,000 post offices, India Post has the largest service reach in the country, making it a key player in last-mile delivery.
The minister also discussed ongoing efforts to enhance efficiency through the adoption of technologies such as digital tracking systems, modern parcel hubs, improved routing, and the use of electric vehicles.
He emphasized that these initiatives aim to transform India Post into a modern, technology-driven logistics and distribution network while maintaining its core strength in human connection.
Scindia reiterated the importance of rural postal workers in maintaining trust and ensuring service delivery in diverse and geographically challenging areas. Their contributions continue to strengthen the postal system and support financial inclusion efforts nationwide.
