New Delhi, May 17: The Indian government’s Department of Consumer Affairs announced on Sunday the establishment of a cutting-edge footwear testing laboratory at the National Testing Centre (NTH) in Ghaziabad. This facility aims to provide comprehensive, reliable, and high-precision testing services for micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs), manufacturers, exporters, consumers, and regulatory authorities across the country.
The government stated that the advanced footwear testing laboratory at NTH Ghaziabad is equipped with modern testing equipment and infrastructure. It will evaluate various types of footwear products according to relevant Indian standards (IS). The laboratory will assess industrial shoes, leather footwear, PVC shoes, sandals, slippers, children’s shoes, sports shoes, and specialized protective footwear for industrial and hazardous work environments.
In a statement from the Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution, it was noted, “The establishment of this state-of-the-art facility is a significant initiative to strengthen India’s quality assurance infrastructure for the rapidly growing footwear sector and enhance the country’s manufacturing competitiveness.”
The statement further added, “The laboratory will conduct extensive performance and quality testing to ensure high standards of safety, durability, comfort, and functionality. This facility is designed to provide accurate, reliable, and timely testing services at comparatively affordable rates, especially for micro, small, and medium enterprises and small-scale manufacturers, making quality assessment more accessible.”
Strategically located in Ghaziabad, near major footwear manufacturing hubs like Delhi-NCR, Kanpur, and Agra, this laboratory will facilitate rapid sample testing, reduce logistics costs, and improve access for the footwear industry in northern India.
