
Bulawayo: India secured a spot in the semifinals of the Under-19 World Cup 2026 by defeating Pakistan by 58 runs in the Super-6 stage. The Indian team will face Afghanistan on February 4 in the second semifinal.
Pakistan needed to chase down the target within 33.3 overs to reach the semifinals but fell short as India not only booked their place in the last four but also won the match convincingly.
After losing the toss and being asked to bat at Queens Sports Club on Sunday, India posted 252 runs in 49.5 overs. The team was in trouble early at 47 for 3 wickets, but Vihan Malhotra and Vedant Trivedi put together a crucial 62-run partnership for the fourth wicket to stabilize the innings. Vihan scored 21 runs off 43 balls before getting out, leaving Vedant to carry the innings forward.
Vedant Trivedi played a solid innings of 68 runs from 98 balls, including one six and two fours. Kanisk Chouhan contributed 35 runs, while RS Ambarish added 29 runs for the team.
From Pakistan’s bowling attack, Abdul Subhan took the most wickets with three, supported by Mohammad Saiyyam who claimed two wickets. Ali Raza, Ahmad Hussain, Momin Kamar, and Ali Hasan each took one wicket.
In response, Pakistan was bowled out for 194 runs in 46.2 overs. The opening pair of Hamza Zahoor and Sameer Minhas added 23 runs for the first wicket. Sameer scored 9 runs before getting out, while Hamza formed a 65-run stand with Usman Khan for the second wicket.
Hamza made 42 runs off 49 balls, including eight fours. Usman Khan and captain Farhan Yusuf added 63 runs for the third wicket, bringing Pakistan close to the target. Farhan contributed 38 runs.
However, after losing Farhan’s wicket at 151, Pakistan’s chances diminished as India made a strong comeback. Khilan Patel took three wickets for 35 runs, and captain Ayush Mhatre matched that with three wickets for 21 runs. Additionally, Ambarish, Henil Patel, Kanisk Chouhan, and Vihan Malhotra took one wicket each.
This comprehensive bowling effort helped India clinch the victory and advance to the semifinals.
