
Mumbai, May 19: The Indian cricket team has been announced for the upcoming single Test match and three ODI series against Afghanistan. Shubman Gill will lead the team in both formats. Veteran players Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma have been included in the ODI squad, while Jasprit Bumrah will not participate in this tournament. Rohit’s participation, along with Hardik Pandya, will depend on their fitness levels.
KL Rahul will serve as the vice-captain for the Test team. Young batsman Yashasvi Jaiswal has also been selected. Rishabh Pant will take on the wicketkeeping duties. Other players like Sai Sudharsan, Devdutt Padikkal, Washington Sundar, Nitish Rana, and Mohammed Siraj have made the cut, along with M. Suthar, Prasidh Krishna, Gurnoor Barar, and Harsh Dubey.
In the ODI squad, Rohit Sharma and Hardik Pandya have been given a chance, but their participation will be contingent on fitness. Experienced player Virat Kohli will feature in the ODI series. Ishan Kishan, Shreyas Iyer, KL Rahul, Arshdeep Singh, and Washington Sundar are also included.
The final of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 will take place on May 31, after which the tournament between India and Afghanistan will commence on June 6. The two nations will play the lone Test match starting June 6 in New Chandigarh. The ODI series will kick off on June 14, with the first match scheduled at Dharamshala. The remaining matches will be held on June 17 and June 20 in Lucknow and Chennai, respectively. The Test match will start at 9:30 AM IST, while the ODIs will begin at 1:30 PM IST.
