
New Delhi, June 4: India’s External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar met with Venezuela’s Acting President Delcy Rodríguez in New Delhi. During their discussion, Jaishankar praised the ongoing efforts to enhance the partnership between the two nations.
Jaishankar expressed optimism that Rodríguez’s upcoming meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi would further strengthen cooperation between India and Venezuela.
Following the meeting, Jaishankar took to social media platform ‘X’ to share his satisfaction about meeting Rodríguez and acknowledged her long-standing contributions to fortifying India-Venezuela relations. He emphasized that her meeting with Prime Minister Modi would lead to enhanced collaboration.
Later in the day, Rodríguez is scheduled to meet with Prime Minister Modi. Their discussions will cover the entirety of bilateral relations and explore avenues for increased cooperation in various sectors, including energy security, trade and investment, pharmaceuticals, healthcare, transportation, and renewable energy.
Rodríguez arrived in New Delhi on a five-day visit aimed at deepening the ties between the two countries. The Ministry of External Affairs welcomed her on ‘X’, stating that this visit would strengthen India-Venezuela relations and inject new momentum into their partnership.
According to the Ministry, the Venezuelan delegation will also visit several sites related to India’s energy, pharmaceutical, and automotive sectors. The goal is to understand India’s technological and industrial capabilities and to identify new opportunities for collaboration.
India has long been a significant partner for Venezuela in the energy and investment sectors. Indian government companies have invested in Venezuela’s energy sector, and discussions are ongoing to explore further cooperation.
The relationship between India and Venezuela is generally regarded as good and friendly, particularly based on shared perspectives on energy, trade, and issues concerning the Global South. This visit is expected to further solidify cooperation and expand partnerships in various new areas.
