India and Egypt Hold First Naval Staff Talks to Strengthen Maritime Defense Relations

Cairo, April 25: The Ministry of Defense announced that India and Egypt held their inaugural Navy-to-Navy Staff Talks (NNST) in Cairo. This significant meeting took place during the 11th session of the India-Egypt Joint Defense Committee (JDC).

The Indian Embassy described this dialogue as a crucial milestone in maritime cooperation. Discussions focused on operational coordination, joint training, maritime domain awareness, and new opportunities for collaboration in naval technology and shipbuilding.

Maritime cooperation has been a vital aspect of defense relations between India and Egypt. This meeting is seen as a major step towards further strengthening naval ties between the two nations.

Earlier this week, the JDC meeting in Cairo also yielded fruitful discussions on enhancing defense cooperation. The Indian delegation was led by Amitabh Prasad, Joint Secretary (International Cooperation), and included senior officials from the Ministry of Defense and the armed forces. The Egyptian side was represented by senior officials from their Ministry of Defense and military.

Both parties reviewed progress since their last meeting and established a roadmap for the future. They agreed on a defense cooperation plan for 2026-27, which includes structured dialogues at the military level, increased joint training, enhanced maritime security cooperation, and expanding the scope and complexity of military exercises, as well as boosting partnerships in defense production and technology.

The Indian side also shared insights into its rapidly growing defense production sector, noting that India’s defense production has surpassed $20 billion, with exports of defense products amounting to nearly $4 billion to over 100 countries.

Both nations expressed commitment to enhancing collaboration in the defense industry, discussing possibilities for joint development and production of defense equipment. Industrial cooperation in the defense sector is becoming an essential component of India-Egypt relations.
