New Delhi, February 22: The India AI Impact Summit 2026, the largest AI event to date, concluded on Saturday with the adoption of the ‘New Delhi Declaration’ at the Bharat Mandapam in the national capital.
Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw announced on Sunday via an ex-post that the declaration has been signed, receiving global backing for Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s human-centric AI vision.
He stated that the declaration is inspired by the principle of “Sarva Jan Hitaaya, Sarva Jan Sukhaya,” aiming to ensure equitable access to AI resources and benefits for all of humanity.
At the summit, representatives from 89 countries and international organizations endorsed a shared global vision for trustworthy, robust, and efficient AI. This is considered a significant milestone in promoting global cooperation in the field of artificial intelligence.
The declaration emphasized that AI can be a major tool for economic development and social welfare, provided it is advanced with principles of responsibility and equal opportunity.
It called for strengthening international cooperation, enhancing multilateral partnerships, and respecting national sovereignty to ensure that the benefits of AI are shared with all of humanity. Additionally, it stressed the importance of developing a reliable and accessible AI framework.
The AI Impact Summit’s declaration is based on seven key pillars that will lay the foundation for global AI collaboration. These include the democratization of AI resources, economic development and social welfare, safe and trustworthy AI, AI for science, access for social empowerment, human capital development, and resilient and efficient AI systems.
During the conference, several significant voluntary global initiatives were announced.
A charter for the democratic distribution of AI was introduced, aiming to ensure affordable and equitable access to essential AI resources.
The Global AI Impact Commons platform was launched to promote and replicate successful AI use cases worldwide.
A proposal was made to establish a Trusted AI Commons, which would serve as a shared repository of tools, benchmarks, and best practices for developing secure and robust AI systems.
An initiative to create an international network for AI in scientific institutions was proposed to enhance global scientific collaboration and AI-based research.
The AI platform for social empowerment aims to share knowledge and make AI accessible to all segments of society.
Agreement was also reached on promoting skill development, training, and AI literacy through an AI workforce development playbook and reskilling principles.
Moreover, guiding principles for the development of energy-efficient and resilient AI systems were emphasized.
The declaration identified AI as a key driver of economic growth. It stressed the need to promote an open-source and accessible AI ecosystem, develop energy-efficient infrastructure, and enhance the use of AI in governance and public services.
Participating countries reiterated their commitment to advancing shared global priorities for AI governance, adopting voluntary and non-binding frameworks, and transforming the vision into actionable steps through continuous collaboration.
This summit is expected to strengthen long-term international partnerships and position AI as a leading driver of global economic growth.
