Imran Khan de-notified as Pakistan Prime Minister

Islamabad, April 3 : Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Chairman Imran Khan has been de-notified as the prime minister of Pakistan with immediate effect, a statement from the Cabinet Division said on Sunday. However, Imran Khan can continue as the prime minister till the appointment of a caretaker prime minister, local media reports. “Consequent upon dissolution of the National Assembly by the president of Pakistan, in terms of Article 58(1) read with Article 48(1) of the Constitution of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, vide Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs’ SRO No. 487(1)/2022, dated 3rd April, 2022, Mr Imran Ahmad Khan Niazi ceased to hold the Office of the Prime Minister of Pakistan, with immediate effect,” said the notification from the Cabinet Division. It is noteworthy that the president, Dr Arif Alvi, has not yet issued written instructions to Khan to continue serving as the chief executive till the appointment of caretaker prime minister. But, according to Article 224-A(4) of the Pakistan Constitution, the outgoing prime minister can continue his work till the appointment of the caretaker prime minister. As per The Express Tribune report, the Cabinet Division also issued a notification to dissolve the 52-member federal cabinet. The Cabinet Division also notified 25 federal ministers and four ministers of state. The Cabinet Division also de-notified four advisers to the prime minister and 19 special assistants. The move comes hours after Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly Qasim Suri abruptly dismissed the no-confidence motion against the PTI chairman and termed it “unconstitutional”, saying that it was backed by “foreign powers”.
