Implementation of Uniform Civil Code in Uttar Pradesh Welcomed by Manu Gaud

Manu Gaud praises the move to implement the Uniform Civil Code in Uttar Pradesh, highlighting its benefits for residents of both states.

Dehradun, October 30 (Daily Kiran) : Central Home Minister Amit Shah’s recent statement regarding the implementation of the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) in Uttar Pradesh has been met with enthusiasm by Manu Gaud, a member of the Uttarakhand UCC Draft Committee. Speaking in Dehradun, Gaud expressed his approval of the initiative, noting that it follows the successful implementation of the UCC in Uttarakhand nearly two years ago.

Gaud emphasized that the move is a positive step as other states begin to adopt similar measures. He pointed out that Gujarat has also received presidential approval for its UCC, which will be enacted once the regulations are finalized. The initiation of UCC implementation in Uttar Pradesh is, therefore, seen as a promising development.

Highlighting the longstanding social and familial ties between Uttarakhand and Uttar Pradesh, Gaud mentioned that many residents of western Uttar Pradesh have historical connections to Uttarakhand. Several families maintain residences in both states, and some individuals have been listed on voter rolls in both places. To address this, efforts are underway to remove duplicate entries through a Special Intensive Review (SIR).

Gaud stated that if the UCC is enacted in Uttar Pradesh, residents of both states will benefit from a unified legal framework. He noted that Uttarakhand’s UCC prohibits polygamy, which previously allowed individuals connected to both states to exploit differing legal systems. A consistent legal structure across both regions would help prevent such discrepancies.

Additionally, Gaud urged Uttar Pradesh to draw lessons from Uttarakhand’s educational reforms. He revealed that Uttarakhand has dissolved its Madarsa Education Board to align with the new education policy, aimed at providing modern educational opportunities for Muslim children. This initiative seeks to enable them to pursue careers in fields like medicine, engineering, and civil services.

With a significant number of registered madrasas located in Uttar Pradesh, Gaud suggested that the state consider adopting Uttarakhand’s educational model as it moves forward with the UCC.
