Islamabad, September 16 (Patrika English News): Five Pakistani soldiers, including a captain, were killed in an improvised explosive device (IED) attack in Balochistan’s Kech district on Monday afternoon, the military’s media wing Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) confirmed late in the night.

According to the ISPR, the explosion occurred in Sher Bandi area when a security convoy was advancing. Following the blast, security forces launched retaliatory action and killed five militants.

The soldiers killed were identified as Captain Waqar Ahmed (25) from Loralai, Naik Asmat Ullah (35) from Dera Ghazi Khan, Lance Naik Junaid Ahmed (29) from Sukkur, Lance Naik Khan Mohammad (29) from Mardan, and Sepoy Mohammad Zahoor (28) from Swabi.

In its statement, the ISPR said, “The martyrdom of our brave officers and soldiers further strengthens our resolve. Pakistan’s security forces, along with the nation, remain committed to eliminating terrorism from the country.”

The attack comes just days after security forces killed 31 militants during operations in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on September 13 and 14. Between September 10 and 13, three separate intelligence-based operations in the province had also left 19 soldiers dead, while 45 militants were eliminated.
