
Dubai, July 15: The latest ODI rankings released by the International Cricket Council (ICC) show Indian team captain Shubman Gill closing in on the number one spot for ODI batsmen. After scoring 80 runs in the first ODI against England, Gill is now just 12 places away from the top rank, currently holding the second position.
At the top of the ODI batsmen rankings is New Zealand’s Daryl Mitchell. India’s Virat Kohli follows in third place, while Rohit Sharma is ranked fourth. Afghanistan’s Ibrahim Zadran occupies the fifth position.
West Indies’ Shai Hope is in sixth place, with Pakistan’s Babar Azam in seventh. Hope has gained one position, while Azam has dropped one. Ireland’s Harry Tector is ranked eighth, Sri Lanka’s Charith Asalanka is ninth, and Sri Lanka’s Kusal Mendis rounds out the top ten, having moved up two spots. South Africa’s Quinton de Kock has climbed one position to 12th, and England’s Joe Root has made a significant leap, rising six places to 13th.
In the top five bowlers for the ODI format, Afghanistan’s Rashid Khan holds the first position, followed by Pakistan’s Abrar Ahmed in second, South Africa’s Keshav Maharaj in third, England’s Jofra Archer in fourth, and England’s Maheesh Theekshana in fifth. England’s Adil Rashid is in sixth, while New Zealand’s Mitchell Santner has moved up three spots to seventh. India’s Kuldeep Yadav, Pakistan’s Shaheen Afridi, and Bangladesh’s Mehidy Hasan Miraz occupy the eighth, ninth, and tenth positions, respectively, each dropping one place. Bangladesh’s Shoriful Islam has made a remarkable jump of six places to 15th, and West Indies’ Gudakesh Motie has also risen six spots to 16th.
Jasprit Bumrah, returning to ODI format after 968 days, has entered the bowlers’ rankings at 24th place.
