Surat, April 27: A shocking case of alleged murder has emerged in Surat, Gujarat, following a report of a missing person. Police have arrested a husband accused of killing his wife, whose body was discovered concealed in a wooden box filled with cement in an abandoned house in the Salabatpura area.
Authorities reported that the case came to light on April 25 when the victim’s father filed a complaint, alleging that his daughter, Shilpa (39), was murdered by her husband, Vishal Salvi (40). Initially, Salvi misled the family by claiming that Shilpa was missing.
After family members questioned him, Salvi filed a missing person report on April 24. However, investigators found inconsistencies in his statements, prompting further inquiry and surveillance.
During the investigation, police discovered a handwritten note from the suspect, in which he confessed to killing his wife following a domestic dispute on April 20 and provided details on how he concealed her body. Acting on this information, police teams searched an empty house within the Salabatpura jurisdiction, where they found the body hidden in a cement and soil-filled box.
Officials stated that the body was found in a concealed state, and it appeared that measures had been taken to mask the odor at the location. The body was also discovered without clothing.
After analyzing technical surveillance and nearby CCTV footage, police apprehended the fleeing Salvi from Antroli village. Multiple teams were deployed to track his activities following the incident, leading to his arrest.
According to police, Shilpa worked as a dietitian in the private sector, while the accused was previously employed in the diamond industry but was unemployed at the time of the incident. He had completed education up to the upper primary level. Investigators revealed that the couple had been married for several years and had two children.
Preliminary investigations suggest that long-standing domestic disputes, financial difficulties, unemployment, and suspicions regarding the victim’s frequent phone conversations may have contributed to the tragedy.
Police sources indicated that the accused had been dependent on his wife’s income, and tensions had escalated in the household in recent months. Family members reported that they became suspicious after receiving conflicting information about Shilpa’s whereabouts, prompting them to contact the police.
The case has been registered under Sections 103(1) and 238 of the Indian Penal Code, 2023. Authorities stated that further forensic investigations are underway to determine the exact cause of death and verify the sequence of events surrounding the concealment of the body.
