Ranchi, February 19: A shocking case of human trafficking has emerged in Jharkhand, where unemployed youth were lured with promises of attractive jobs abroad, only to be subjected to cyber slavery in Southeast Asian countries. The Jharkhand CID has registered a case at its cyber crime police station in Ranchi regarding this matter.
In a swift operation, police arrested Sartaj Alam from the Azad Nagar area of Jamshedpur. He allegedly recruited young individuals in collaboration with associates based abroad, sending them to cyber scam centers. Investigations revealed that unauthorized agents contacted these youths, offering job proposals for data entry and other roles in Bangkok, Cambodia, Laos, and Thailand. They charged hefty amounts under the guise of visa and airfare fees.
Upon arrival in these foreign countries, the victims had their passports confiscated and were held in a compound known as “KK Park.” Here, they were trained in online fraud techniques. According to CID officials, the victims were made to create fake profiles on WhatsApp, Instagram, and Facebook.
Through these profiles, they contacted foreign nationals, deceiving them under the pretext of investment opportunities. They were encouraged to deposit money into various accounts by sending links to fraudulent investment apps and websites. Those who resisted faced severe monitoring and were not allowed to leave the center. So far, 11 victims have been identified.
The case has been registered under various sections of the Indian Penal Code, as well as sections 66(B), 66(C), and 66(D) of the Information Technology Act, and provisions of the Immigration Act. The CID is investigating the financial transactions and the inter-state and international networks involved. The agency has urged the public to remain vigilant against unauthorized agents promising jobs abroad and to report any cyber fraud incidents immediately to the national helpline number 1930 or through the official portal.
