Shimla, March 31 : Urban Development Minister Suresh Bhardwaj on Thursday urged the Centre to allow to build a flyover on the property of Railways, to ease out traffic congestion in this capital town. Urban Development Minister Suresh Bhardwaj called on on Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav at New Delhi today. Bhardwaj apprised Vaishnav about the plan of state government to ease out traffic congestion in the main town of Shimla under the Smart City Project. He said after studying all aspects, the state government has drafted a plan to improve the Cart Road (Circular Road) from Railway Station to Victory tunnel, as it is the central point, which provides access to the main town. Regular traffic jams have become a major problem, leading to increase in travel time for the tourists and local people, especially between the stretch from exit point of Railway station to Victory Tunnel. Even during normal conditions, two light vehicles cannot pass smoothly on this stretch, he added. Bhardwaj apprised the on Minister that the state government has improved about 53 spots, which were hindering the smooth flow of traffic on this road by spending crores of rupees for the safety of public. He informed Vaishnav that only the stretch from Railway Station to Victory Tunnel has been left to improve for want of NOC from Railway Ministry. He requested for its speedy approval and added that the state government has no objection, if the Ministry undertakes the improvement work and shall fully cooperate with the same. Bhardwj also discussed about 230 meter flyover opposite Vidhan Sabha. The on Minister heard the demands and assured of all possible assistance. Baring Jubbarhatti Airport and HP versity, all buildings, including th Indian Institute of Advanced Studies, ARTRAC HQ, various offices of Central Government, HP Secretariat, Vidhan Sabha, various Directorates, educational Institutions and hotels, including many Heritage Structures constructed during the British era, were situated in the town. He said the expansion infrastructure was the need of the hour and that the town required development of new basic facilities with increasing pressure of migration from rural to urban areas. ML RJ
