Honor Magic 8 Update Adds Eye-Tracking for Hands-Free Reading

Honor has started rolling out a new MagicOS update for its Magic 8 series smartphones in China. The update, numbered MagicOS 10.0.0.122, introduces a range of AI-powered features, usability enhancements, and system optimizations. The highlight of this update is the innovative eye-tracking page turning feature.

The eye-tracking page turning function is designed to offer a more natural and hands-free reading experience. When enabled, the phone detects the userโ€™s eye movements and automatically turns the page, reducing the need to touch the screen. This feature is particularly useful during extended reading sessions or situations where using hands is inconvenient. Users can activate it by navigating to Settings > Honor AI & YOYO > Eye Tracking > Eye-tracking Page Turning.

Enhanced Screen Recording Features

Along with eye-tracking, the update brings significant improvements to screen recording. A new Clean Screen Recording mode allows users to capture their screen without showing banner notifications, status bars, or animated icons, ensuring distraction-free recordings.

The Magic 8 series now also supports simultaneous call and screen recording. Users can start or continue recording their screens during phone calls, although Honor has clarified that call audio and call content are excluded from these recordings to protect privacy.

Other System Improvements

The update refreshes the Tips and Tricks app with a redesigned interface and expanded content to help users better understand the features of their devices.

On the system front, the Communication Control Center now includes smooth motion rebound animations when expanding or collapsing WLAN, Bluetooth, and media cards, adding a refined visual touch. Battery life has been optimised for certain use cases, and scrolling performance has improved on the home screen as well as in popular apps like Chinaโ€™s 12306 railway ticketing application.

Finally, the update enhances overall system smoothness and stability by fixing lag issues in specific scenarios and reducing crashes and unresponsiveness caused by third-party apps.

The update package size is approximately 790MB.
