
Guwahati, May 10: Himanta Biswa Sarma met with Assam Governor Laxman Prasad Acharya on Sunday to formally claim the formation of a new NDA government led by the BJP in the state.
Central Minister JP Nadda informed reporters that the Governor will soon invite Sarma to form the next government. The swearing-in ceremony will see the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Defense Minister Rajnath Singh, Home Minister Amit Shah, and BJP President Nitin Naveen. Under PM Modi’s leadership, the Assam government is set to work with dedication.
Nadda emphasized that all necessary actions for Assam have been taken and will continue. He assured that promises made to the people of Assam have been fulfilled, and more will be achieved under PM Modi’s guidance.
Following Sarma’s election as the leader of the BJP legislative party, Nitin Naveen congratulated him. In a post on the social media platform X, Naveen extended heartfelt congratulations and best wishes to Sarma for being chosen as the leader of the Assam BJP and NDA legislative party.
He expressed confidence that under PM Modi’s leadership, Assam will continue to progress, ensuring good governance and self-reliance while contributing significantly to nation-building. Naveen also wished Sarma a successful and prosperous tenure.
Earlier, JP Nadda officially announced Sarma’s name as the leader of the BJP legislative party and NDA leader during a meeting held at the BJP state headquarters in Guwahati. This marks Sarma’s second consecutive term as Chief Minister of Assam, while the NDA will form the government in the northeastern state for the third time under BJP leadership.
The swearing-in ceremony for the new Assam government is scheduled for May 12 at the sports ground of Khanapara Veterinary College in Guwahati.
