Himachal Pradesh Weather to Worsen from April 16; IMD Issues Yellow Alert for Thunderstorms and Lightning

SHIMLA, April 13 Himachal Pradesh is set to witness a significant weather shift starting April 16 as a fresh Western Disturbance approaches the region. While Sunday remained bright and pleasant across most parts of the state, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast turbulent conditions lasting until April 19. A yellow alert has been issued for April 18 and 19, warning of thunderstorms, lightning, and strong winds across multiple districts.

Clear Skies to Prevail Until April 15 Before Weather Turns Adverse

Currently, most regions of Himachal including Shimla, Manali, and Kasauli are enjoying clear skies and moderate temperatures. Following recent snowfall in tribal high-altitude areas, the clear weather has led to a slight rise in temperatures. IMD predicts that April 14 and 15 will remain dry and calm, offering a short window of pleasant conditions before the onset of the next Western Disturbance.

Thunderstorms, Rain, and Hail Expected from April 16 to 19

Beginning April 16, light rain may occur in isolated locations. However, the intensity is expected to increase by April 18 and 19, with thunderstorms, gusty winds, and hail forecasted in many regions. Central and higher altitude areas are likely to bear the brunt of the upcoming disturbance. The IMD has cautioned that the weather conditions could disrupt daily life and possibly affect crops, especially in areas prone to hailstorms.

On Saturday, several regions including Shimla, Sundernagar, Kangra, Jubbarhatti, Jogindernagar, and Bhuntar reported rain accompanied by thunder. Hailstorms in Solan and Dharamshala caused damage to fruits, vegetables, and standing crops.

Temperature Dips and Strong Winds Recorded Across the State

The recent weather activity has led to a significant drop in both maximum and minimum temperatures. The lowest temperature was recorded in Keylong, Lahaul-Spiti at 0.6ยฐC, while Hamirpur registered the highest at 31.6ยฐC. Other key temperatures included Shimla at 8.6ยฐC, Manali at 6.2ยฐC, and Kufri at 6.3ยฐC.

Strong winds swept through several regions, with Bilaspur experiencing gusts up to 50 km/h. Bajoura recorded 46.3 km/h, while wind speeds in Reckong Peo, Sundernagar, and Kufri reached 40.8 km/h.

Rainfall data over the past 24 hours shows the highest precipitation in Pachhad with 28 mm, followed by Solan (16 mm), Gaghas (15.8 mm), Rohru (15 mm), and Kasauli (9.2 mm). These showers offered temporary relief but also heightened concerns over the upcoming weather deterioration.
