Mandi, May 14: The impact of Prime Minister Modi’s appeal for fuel conservation is becoming evident. In BJP-ruled states, Chief Ministers and their ministers have reduced their convoys. Meanwhile, Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhu claims he travels in a small electric car.
During a media interaction in Mandi, Chief Minister Sukhu stated that he has already cut down his convoy size. He praised the Governor for also reducing his convoy. “We have reduced ministers’ salaries by 30% and legislators’ salaries by 20%. Financial cuts have been made, and I have instructed to downsize my convoy. My convoy includes small electric vehicles. We have been reducing expenses for three years now. The state is moving towards self-reliance,” he said.
Sukhu accused the BJP of extravagance during its previous government, claiming that millions were wasted on building projects. “The BJP has plundered the state’s wealth. They want to come to power by any means. How can you expect to come to power in Himachal if you block funds meant for public service?”
He further criticized the BJP leaders in Himachal for not questioning the central government about the funds that have not been received. “As far as we are concerned, we will continue to raise this issue for the state’s interest. The Congress government is rapidly moving towards self-reliance. We have strengthened the state’s economy, and meaningful results will be visible in the next 6 to 8 months,” he added.
On PM Modi’s statement regarding the reduction of gold jewelry purchases, Sukhu remarked that weddings are an integral part of our culture, traditions, and family values. Families buy jewelry according to their means as a gesture of love and blessings for their daughters. The livelihoods of millions of artisans, employees, and small traders in the jewelry industry depend on this. “I urge the Prime Minister to reconsider his advice on not buying gold, as it will impact social traditions and employment,” he said.
Regarding the upcoming municipal elections, Sukhu expressed confidence that the people of Mandi are united and will ensure victory for all Congress candidates, leading to a strong Congress government in the elections.
