High Voter Turnout of 90.61% Recorded in West Bengals Re-Elections

Kolkata, May 3: Re-elections at 15 polling booths across two assembly seats in South 24 Parganas, West Bengal, concluded peacefully on Saturday, with a remarkable voter turnout of 90.61%. This information was confirmed by Manoj Kumar Agrawal, the Chief Electoral Officer of West Bengal.

Voting commenced at 7 AM and wrapped up by 6 PM, with no reports of violence, disruptions, or tensions from any polling station.

The overall average voter turnout across all 15 booths stood at 90.61%. In the Magrahat (West) assembly constituency, the average turnout was recorded at 89.29% across 11 booths. In contrast, the Diamond Harbour assembly constituency saw a higher average turnout of 91.77% across four booths.

The re-elections were conducted under stringent security measures provided by central forces, with assistance from state police, ensuring no complaints of electoral misconduct were reported.

Re-elections took place at booths number 46, 126, 127, 128, 142, 214, 215, 216, 230, 231, and 232 in Magrahat (West), and booths number 117, 179, 194, and 243 in Diamond Harbour.

This year’s assembly elections in West Bengal witnessed the highest voter turnout since independence, with an average turnout of approximately 93% in both phases held on April 23 and April 29.

Previously, the highest national voter turnout was recorded in Tripura in 2013, at 91.82%. West Bengal’s highest turnout before this was during the 2011 assembly elections, marking the end of 34 years of Left Front rule and the beginning of the Trinamool Congress government led by Mamata Banerjee.

Vote counting is scheduled for May 4, with results to be announced on the same day. Most exit polls, barring a few, predict the end of the Trinamool Congress’s 15-year rule and a potential shift in power within the state.
