Heavy security in Jahangirpuri after violence leaves several hospitalised

New Delhi, April 16 : Hours after violence broke out between two groups in Jahangirpuri of the national capital on Saturday during a procession of Hanuman Jayanti, the Delhi Police deployed heavy security personnel in the area and were also appealing to the people to maintain peace. Police said the situation was under control and adequate police forces have been deployed in the sensitive area. Delhi Police Commissioner Rakesh Asthana took to Twitter to comment on the situation. In a series of tweets, he said, “The situation is completely under control in the incident in North West district. Adequate numbers of additional police force have been deployed in Jahangirpuri and other sensitive areas. Higher police officers have been instructed to do intensive patrolling in the area and keep a constant vigil on the situation. “In today’s incident in NW District, the situation is under control. Adequate additional force has been deployed in Jahangirpuri and other sensitive areas. Senior officers have been asked to remain in the field and closely supervise the law & order situation & undertake patrolling. “Strict action will be taken against any attempt to disturb law and order. The public is requested not to pay attention to the rumors and fake news,” he added. on Home Minister Amit Shah spoke to Asthana after the stone pelting incident on a procession being taken out on the occasion of Hanuman Jayanti in Jahangirpuri area and directed him to maintain Law and Order in Delhi, sources said. Sources further said that senior police officials rushed to the spot and were trying to pacify the situation, which was slightly tense as stone pelting incidents re-occurred, after a gap of 10-15 minutes. Several vehicles were also vandalised during the incident. Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal tweeted in Hindi and said, “The incident of stone pelting in the procession in Jahangirpuri, Delhi is highly condemnable. Strict action should be taken against those who are guilty. Appeal to all people-Keep peace by holding each other’s hand.” Kejriwal tweeted, “Spoken to Hon’ble LG. He assured that all steps are being taken to ensure peace and that guilt will not be spread.” CM RJ
