Hearing on Sonia Gandhi Voter List Petition Postponed to February 7

New Delhi: The hearing on the petition linked to Congress leader Sonia Gandhi regarding the alleged inclusion of her name in the voter list before acquiring Indian citizenship has been postponed. The case was scheduled for hearing at the Rouse Avenue Court in Delhi, but the court deferred it after Sonia Gandhi’s side requested more time to file a detailed response.

The court has rescheduled the next hearing for February 7. During the proceedings, Sonia Gandhi’s representatives informed the court about the need for additional time to submit a comprehensive reply to the revision petition. Accepting this request, the court adjourned the matter to a later date.

The revision petition was filed by advocate Vikas Tripathi. It alleges that Sonia Gandhi’s name was entered in the New Delhi voter list in 1980, three years before she obtained Indian citizenship on April 30, 1983. The petition raises questions about the basis on which her name was included in the 1980 voter list when she was not yet an Indian citizen. It also points out that her name was removed from the voter list in 1982, prompting further scrutiny.

The petition further claims that if Sonia Gandhi received citizenship in 1983, then the documents used for including her name in the 1980 voter list require examination. It suggests the possibility that fraudulent documents might have been employed for this purpose.

Earlier, on December 9, the Rouse Avenue Court issued notices to Sonia Gandhi and the Delhi Police, seeking their response to the revision petition filed by Vikas Tripathi. Prior to this, a magistrate court had dismissed a petition in September 2025 that sought the registration of an FIR and investigation against Sonia Gandhi. The current revision petition challenges that dismissal.
