Health and Prosperity: Ayush Minister Emphasizes Wellness on Dhanteras
Ayush Minister Prataprao Jadhav highlights the importance of health alongside wealth during Dhanteras celebrations.

New Delhi, November 2 (Daily Kiran) : Central Ayush Minister Prataprao Jadhav extended warm wishes to citizens on Dhanvantari Day and Diwali, emphasizing that Dhanteras is not just a celebration of wealth and prosperity, but also a reminder of the importance of good health.
Jadhav stated, “I wish all citizens a very happy Dhanvantari Day and the festival of lights, Diwali. Dhanteras serves as a reminder that the greatest asset in life is good health. Without health, one cannot fully enjoy material comforts. Thus, just as we seek wealth, we must also strive to maintain our health.”
He pointed out that Dhanvantari is revered as the deity of health, advocating for the worship of Dhanvantari in every household and institution. “This is our tradition, and we must carry it forward,” he said.
Discussing the role of Ayush in modern lifestyles, Jadhav noted that dietary habits and daily routines are rapidly changing. These shifts have led to a rise in lifestyle-related diseases, known as non-communicable diseases, which are a global concern.
He highlighted the increasing prevalence of diabetes, hypertension, obesity, mental health issues, cancer, heart disease, and kidney ailments. “These conditions pose significant challenges for governments worldwide,” he remarked.
The minister affirmed that the Ayush system aims to prevent lifestyle-related diseases. He explained that Ayurveda and yoga play crucial roles in maintaining health, contrasting them with allopathic medicine, which focuses on treatment after illness occurs.
Jadhav urged people to incorporate Ayurveda and yoga into their daily lives to stay healthy and avoid lifestyle-related diseases. “Ayurveda and yoga encourage good nutrition, proper routines, and balanced living,” he said.
He reiterated the foundational principle of Ayurveda: ‘Swastasya Swasthya Rakshanam,’ which means maintaining good health. “Every individual should make an effort to keep their health in check. This is the best way to avoid lifestyle-related diseases,” he added.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi also promotes Ayurveda and yoga, and Jadhav discussed the Ayush Ministry’s role in achieving Modi’s vision for 2047. He noted that the government aims to ensure that the benefits of Ayush methods reach as many citizens as possible.
Through the National Ayush Mission, the ministry is working to strengthen the infrastructure for Ayush services. Currently, over 12,500 Ayushman Arogya Mandirs are operational across the country, with a focus on increasing the availability of Ayush services in primary health centers, community health centers, and district hospitals.
Furthermore, Jadhav mentioned the establishment of Ayush departments in globally recognized institutions like AIIMS, ensuring people can benefit from various treatment methods as needed. The goal is to provide quality and accessible health services to all citizens, allowing them to choose the appropriate medical system for their needs.
He concluded by noting that yoga has gained recognition in over 180 countries, with millions practicing it. Ayurveda Day is celebrated in approximately 150 nations. “Our traditional healing methods, rooted in the discoveries of our ancient sages, are now embraced and recognized worldwide,” he stated.
