HDFC Bank’s Parivartan Reaches 298 Border Villages, Empowers Rural Communities Across India
Udaipur, India April 17, 2025 — HDFC Bank, India’s largest private sector bank, has extended its flagship CSR initiative Parivartan to 298 border villages across 12 Indian states and union territories. These transformative rural development efforts are in alignment with the Government of India’s Border Area Development Programme (BADP) and Vibrant Villages Programme, aiming to uplift remote and strategically important regions.
Creating Sustainable Change in India’s Border Areas
Spanning states such as Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Bihar, Gujarat, Himachal Pradesh, J&K, Ladakh, Rajasthan, Sikkim, Uttar Pradesh, and Uttarakhand, Parivartan has already impacted over 500,000 lives through targeted need-based interventions. The initiative is focused on technology-enabled education, agricultural productivity, renewable energy, healthcare, and livelihood generation.
Mr. Kaizad Bharucha, Deputy Managing Director of HDFC Bank, said:
“We are committed to creating meaningful impact in India’s border villages. Our collaboration with NGOs, local governments, and communities is rooted in the belief that self-reliant villages are the backbone of a stronger India.”
Two-Pronged Development Strategy
Parivartan’s impact is delivered through two structured programs:
-
Holistic Rural Development Programme (HRDP): Implemented across clusters of 15–20 villages over 36–48 months, this model addresses multiple sectors simultaneously including education, health, skill development, financial inclusion, and natural resource management.
-
Focused Development Programme (FDP): Targets single-sector interventions for deep and immediate impact, addressing specific needs of a region.
Nusrat Pathan, Head of CSR at HDFC Bank, emphasized the importance of integrated development, stating:
“Progress in one sector should catalyze growth in others. That’s how we maximize our impact and ensure long-term transformation.”
Targeted Regions and Future Plans
Among the regions benefitting from Parivartan are Kishanganj and Madhubani in Bihar, Kutch in Gujarat, Lower Dibang Valley and Shi Yomi in Arunachal Pradesh, Barmer in Rajasthan, and Chamoli in Uttarakhand, among many others.
HDFC Bank plans to expand its reach to 150 additional border villages in the coming years, continuing its commitment to inclusive development and national security through community empowerment.
