New Delhi, May 18: HDFC Asset Management Company announced on Monday that it received a message from an unknown source claiming access to parts of the company’s IT infrastructure.
The incident occurred on May 16, prompting the company to activate its incident response protocol to mitigate potential risks immediately.
HDFC AMC stated that it has engaged a specialized cybersecurity firm to conduct a thorough assessment of the incident’s potential impact.
In its filing, the asset manager noted, “The detailed assessment is ongoing, but based on initial evaluations, this incident is unlikely to affect our business and operational continuity, and there is no significant impact on the company’s operations.”
However, the company did not disclose the nature of the alleged access, the potentially affected systems, or any information regarding the leakage of customer or financial data.
This incident arises amid growing concerns over increasing cybersecurity risks faced by financial institutions and market infrastructure entities.
Previously, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman urged the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) to remain exceptionally vigilant against rapidly evolving AI-based cyber threats.
Speaking at SEBI’s 38th Foundation Day event, Sitharaman warned that a successful cyber attack on any major exchange, depository, clearing corporation, or brokerage could disrupt national markets and undermine investor confidence.
Following this incident, HDFC Asset Management Company’s shares experienced a significant decline, with the stock trading at ₹2,622.50, down 2.98%, at 11:40 AM on the BSE.
