Hazaribagh, 2 January: A violent dispute among youths late on 1 January at Indrapuri Chowk in Hazaribagh city ended with the brutal murder of a young man. The deceased has been identified as 30-year-old Suraj Kumar Rana, a resident of Madai Khurd and a professional tiles and marble craftsman.
The incident has created fear and anger in the area. According to family members and eyewitnesses, the conflict began around 9 pm at Indrapuri Chowk. It started with an argument over playing music among some youths returning from a picnic. The situation escalated when some youths forcibly took Suraj Kumar Rana near the Red Cross building and assaulted him.
Eyewitnesses said the attackers brutally beat Suraj and dragged him towards Lal Kothi Chowk. During this, the assailants attacked him with a sword, leaving him critically injured. Nearby people heard the commotion and immediately informed the police.
On receiving the information, police arrived at the scene and took the bloodied Suraj to Sadar Hospital for treatment. However, doctors declared him dead around 11 pm. News of the incident caused panic at Indrapuri Chowk and surrounding areas, with large crowds gathering at the hospital and the crime scene.
The police collected evidence from the site and sent the body for postmortem. Preliminary investigations suggest the murder resulted from a personal dispute, though police are examining all aspects thoroughly. According to police officials, several suspects have been detained for questioning as part of swift action.
Raids are ongoing at possible hideouts to identify and arrest the attackers. Additional police forces have been deployed in the area to prevent any untoward incidents. Suraj Kumar Rana was married five years ago and was the sole breadwinner of his family. He is survived by his wife and two young children. His family is devastated and grieving deeply after the tragic loss.
