
Mumbai, May 21: Hardik Pandya, captain of the Mumbai Indians, has been fined 10% of his match fee. Additionally, he has received one demerit point. This penalty comes after a match between the Mumbai Indians (MI) and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in IPL 2026, where Hardik was found guilty of a Level One breach of the IPL Code of Conduct.
The incident occurred during the tenth over of the second innings when Hardik deliberately knocked over the stumps while returning to his run-up. This action violated Article 2.2 of the IPL Code of Conduct, which pertains to the misuse of cricket equipment, clothing, or any fixtures on the field.
Hardik has acknowledged his mistake and accepted the fine. His performance in the match was underwhelming, as he bowled only two overs and scored just 26 runs off 27 balls, hitting two fours and one six.
The Mumbai Indians faced a 6-wicket defeat against KKR. MI’s batting lineup failed to meet expectations, with Rohit Sharma scoring only 15 runs and Ryan Rickelton contributing just 6 runs before being dismissed by Cameron Green. Naman Dhir did not score at all.
Suryakumar Yadav continued his poor form, getting bowled for 15 runs by Saurabh Dubey. Tilak Varma managed only 20 runs off 32 balls. In the final overs, Corbin Bosch scored an unbeaten 32 runs off 18 balls, helping the team reach a total of 147 runs after losing 8 wickets.
However, MI’s bowlers could not defend the target of 148 runs, as KKR successfully chased it down in 18.5 overs, losing 6 wickets. Manish Pandey played a stellar innings, scoring 45 runs off 33 balls, while Rovman Powell added 40 runs off 30 balls. With this loss, MI has been eliminated from the playoff race.
