Mumbai, April 24: The performance of the Mumbai Indians (MI) in IPL 2026 has been disappointing. On Thursday, they faced a significant defeat against Chennai Super Kings (CSK), losing by 103 runs at Wankhede Stadium. Former Indian cricketer Harbhajan Singh believes that the MI spinners have not lived up to expectations, and the rest of the players need to take on more responsibility.
In an interview, Harbhajan stated, “Mumbai Indians is a big team, but they have not found their rhythm this season. The team is continuously losing matches. There have been some mistakes, and I feel that MI’s spinners are not performing well in IPL 2026. Jasprit Bumrah is a bowler everyone has high hopes for. He carries the burden of taking wickets; that’s essential for the team’s success.”
The former spinner added, “In my view, besides Bumrah, the other players must also take responsibility and perform well. Mumbai Indians is a team that, once they start winning, will be hard to stop. However, MI needs to find a way back to winning. Nothing is over for them yet. If MI can chart a winning path from here, they can reach the playoffs.”
During the match against CSK, MI’s batting lineup collapsed like a house of cards. Chasing a target of 208 runs, the entire MI team was bowled out for just 104 runs, marking their largest defeat in IPL history in terms of runs.
So far in IPL 2026, MI has played 7 matches, winning only 2 and losing 5. Their next match is scheduled for April 29 against Sunrisers Hyderabad at Wankhede Stadium.
