Mumbai, March 5: Hampshire has signed West Indies fast bowler Jayden Seales for the 2026 County Championship. Seales replaces Michael Neser, who was called up by Cricket Australia earlier this month.
Hampshire’s cricket director, Giles White, expressed disappointment over Neser’s absence but welcomed the opportunity for a new player. “Jayden Seales is a bowler with pace and skill, and most importantly, he has a hunger for match-winning performances. He will play alongside some of the West Indies’ greats who have been with the club for the past two years. We are eager to see him perform strongly at the start of the season,” White stated.
Seales has prior experience in the County Championship, having played 10 matches for Sussex. During his time there, he took 39 wickets and played a crucial role in promoting the team to Division One, averaging 28.46 with a best figure of 5-29 against Derbyshire in 2024.
Making his international debut in 2021, Seales had played only one first-class match before stepping onto the international stage. His performances for the West Indies have been impressive, including his first international five-wicket haul against Pakistan in Jamaica, where he was named Player of the Match.
Overall, Seales has played 64 matches across all formats for the West Indies and has led the pace attack. He was part of the West Indies team in the 2026 T20 World Cup, although the Caribbean side failed to qualify for the semifinals, losing to India in their final Super-8 match.
First-class cricket is set to return on April 3, with Hampshire facing Essex in their opening match of the County Championship.
