Gwalior Court Issues Notice to Congress MLA Ghanshyam Singh Over Allegations of Concealing Criminal Cases
The Madhya Pradesh High Court has issued a notice to Congress MLA Ghanshyam Singh for allegedly hiding criminal case details in election filings.

Gwalior, October 16 (Daily Kiran) : The Gwalior bench of the Madhya Pradesh High Court has issued a notice to Congress MLA Ghanshyam Singh in response to a petition seeking the annulment of his election. The petition alleges that Singh concealed details about a criminal case from 1991, along with other pending cases, in his election affidavit. The petitioners claim that by providing false information, Singh secured his election victory and are now demanding the revocation of his legislative seat.
Manoj Upadhyay, the lawyer representing the petitioners, stated that Singh was elected from the Sevda constituency in 2023 and later contested a by-election from Datia in 2026. All candidates are required to disclose their criminal background and any pending cases in affidavits submitted to the Election Commission. Singh reportedly had four pending cases but failed to disclose any of them during the 2023 elections.
The lawyer further alleged that in the affidavit filed for the 2026 by-election, Singh mentioned only two of the four pending cases, omitting details of the other two. Based on these allegations, the petitioners have challenged his election. Upadhyay noted that when local residents Deepak Belpatri and Vinod Sharma became aware of Singh’s alleged concealment of criminal cases, they filed a petition with the High Court. Initially submitted to the Jabalpur bench, the case has since been transferred to the Gwalior bench for hearing, with notices issued to all relevant parties, including Singh.
The petitioners are urging the court to annul Singh’s election if it finds that he indeed hid information regarding his criminal cases in his affidavits. Upadhyay also referenced former Congress MLA Rajendra Bharti, who is accused in the same criminal case. Bharti disclosed his pending cases in his affidavit during the 2023 elections. The lawyer claims that Singh is a co-accused in the same matter but failed to reveal this information.
As the proceedings continue, the court will seek responses from Singh and other involved parties. If the High Court determines that Singh intentionally concealed details of his criminal cases, it could lead to severe consequences, including the potential annulment of his legislative seat.
