
Mumbai, February 21: Dr. Bharat Jagdeo, the Vice President of Guyana, has arrived in Ayodhya. He touched down at Valmiki Airport on Saturday morning at 9:40 AM via a private jet. Following his arrival, he traveled by road to the Ram Temple complex.
Dr. Jagdeo, of Indian descent, will participate in the worship of Ram Lalla and assess the ongoing temple construction. After spending approximately three hours at the Ram Janmabhoomi complex, he will depart for Jamnagar, Gujarat, by plane.
Dr. Jagdeo’s ancestors hail from the village of Pure Thakurain in Amethi district, Uttar Pradesh. During his visit to India, he attended the India AI Impact Summit 2026 held in New Delhi. Upon his arrival, he received a grand welcome from Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
This visit is viewed as a positive step towards strengthening the bilateral relations between Guyana, located in South America, and India.
Born on January 23, 1964, Dr. Jagdeo has been serving as Vice President under President Irfaan Ali since 2020. He previously held the same position during Janet Jagan’s presidency from 1997 to 1999. Dr. Jagdeo also served as President of Guyana from August 11, 1999, to December 3, 2011, taking office after Jagan resigned due to health issues.
A member of the People’s Progressive Party/Civic (PPP/C), he was the Finance Minister from 1995 to 1999 and won elections in 2001 and 2006. Dr. Jagdeo was the youngest and first President of Guyana to resign in accordance with the term limits set in the constitution.
