Surat, February 8: Amit Chavda, the President of the Gujarat Congress, accused the state government on Sunday of failing to maintain law and order. He highlighted allegations of widespread corruption at the Bardoli sugar factory in Surat district.
Addressing the media, Chavda claimed that illegal activities have surged in the area of Deputy Chief Minister and Home Minister Harsh Sanghvi. He alleged that alcohol smugglers and anti-social elements have become uncontrollable.
Local residents have expressed concerns that alcohol and drugs are ruining the youth, making it difficult for women and daughters to venture out at night due to the dominance of criminal elements.
Referring to the Bardoli sugar factory, Chavda noted that it is Asia’s largest sugar factory and a vital institution for farmers in South Gujarat. However, he accused the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of plundering and exploiting it, stating that corruption is rampant.
He further alleged that under the current government, farmers are not receiving fair market prices, pollution levels have risen, unemployment has increased, law and order has deteriorated, and corruption is evident in every sector.
Highlighting Bardoli’s historical significance, Chavda mentioned that the area was a key center in the freedom struggle against British rule, led by former Home Minister Sardar Patel.
On this basis, he demanded that the Sardar Memorial be declared a national monument. Chavda also announced that the Congress party will intensify its movement in the coming days.
He stated that the district and taluka Congress committees will take to the streets to fight for the rights and justice of the people.
