Gujarat CM Bhupendra Patel Commemorates Victims of Partition on Remembrance Day

Gandhinagar, August 14: Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel and Deputy CM Harsh Sanghvi paid tribute on Friday to those who lost their lives during the partition of India and suffered the pain of displacement. This observance coincides with Partition Horrors Remembrance Day.

In a post on his social media platform X, CM Patel described the partition as more than just a geographical boundary. He referred to it as a dark chapter marked by immense suffering, displacement, and the pain endured by millions.

On this solemn day, Patel stated, “I pay homage to all those who lost their lives in the tragedy of partition.” He also remembered those who had to leave their motherland, loved ones, and homes in the process of nation-building.

Sanghvi, in a separate message, honored those affected by the partition. He expressed, “I pay tribute to all those who endured the horrors of partition and the pain of displacement.”

Partition Horrors Remembrance Day is observed annually on August 14. Prime Minister Modi announced its observance in 2021, stating that the day would honor all those who faced struggle and suffering during the nation’s division. These individuals also made invaluable contributions towards strengthening social harmony.

The partition of 1947 led to mass displacement, with many relocating between India and Pakistan amid widespread violence and communal tension. The government decided to commemorate this day to remember the pain felt by those who had to leave their homes.

This remembrance day is observed just a day before Independence Day. Gujarat is also participating in the Har Ghar Tiranga campaign, which runs nationwide from August 9 to 17.

According to Sanghvi, around 1,200 Tiranga rallies are being organized across the state, aiming to display the national flag in 7 million homes.

On a national level, Prime Minister Modi also paid tribute on Friday to all those affected by the partition post-independence, while recalling the bravery of those who demonstrated courage during the freedom struggle.
