Kolkata, Mar 3 : West Bengal Governor Jagdeep Dhankar on Thursday summoned the state legislative assembly to meet at 2 pm on March 7, which ended nearly a fortnight-long tug of war between the state government and Raj Bhavan over fulfilling the Constitutional obligations. “Summoning the WBLA invoking article 174(1) of the Constitution, accepting the February 28 cabinet decision. The Assembly has been summoned to meet on March, 7, 2022, at 2 PM” the governor posted this on his twitter account. ” (The) chief secretary has assured of effecting constitutional compliance of all pending issues not later than 15 days,” the Raj Bhavan said. Earlier on Thursday morning chief secretary Hari Krishna Dwivedi called on the Governor at Raj Bhavan in connection with the issues of summoning the state legislative assembly, Raj Bhavan sources said. Chief minister Mamata Banerjee and governor Jagdeep Dhankhar were at loggerheads as the latter returned a government notification seeking his recommendation for summoning the assembly. The governor returned the notice with a note that it had not any cabinet decision, which is mandatory under the rules of summoning the state assembly. However, a second comm cation on the state cabinet decision sent to Dhankhar contained a “typographical error” as it mentioned 2 AM as the recommended time for summoning the House on March 7. The Governor summoned the chief secretary for a clarification before summoning the assembly at an odd time. But when the chief secretary could not make it to Raj Bhavan the governor had summoned the assembly at 2 am, accepting the state cabinet decision. Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee then called up Dhankhar explaining that it was a typographical error. Dwivedi then sent a note to the Governor, requesting him to condone the typographical errors and convene the House at 2 PM on March 7. Dhankhar then called the Advocate General and sought his advice before issuing the notification on Thursday. PC-SJC SSP
