Goat Farming Scheme: 50% Subsidy to Encourage Livestock Business

Under this welfare scheme, the Department of Animal Husbandry is offering 50% financial assistance to eligible farmers to set up goat rearing units. According to Dr. Anil Kansal, Chief Veterinary Officer of Moradabad, the scheme is designed to increase farmers’ income and support rural economic development.

Farmers who wish to benefit from this scheme must apply in the prescribed format, with the application window currently open. The subsidy covers half the cost of setting up the unit, making goat farming a low-investment, high-return opportunity.

High Market Demand for Goat Products

Dr. Kansal highlighted that goat farming has strong market potential, with rising demand for goat milk, meat, and related products. The sector has become a lucrative livelihood option for small-scale farmers, offering consistent income with minimal investment.

Farmers are encouraged to submit applications promptly as the department expects a surge in interest due to the scheme’s benefits and commercial viability.

How to Apply for the Goat Farming Subsidy

Interested farmers must approach their nearest veterinary office with the following documents:

  • Land ownership documents

  • Valid identification proof (Aadhaar, Voter ID, etc.)

  • Copy of bank passbook

  • Other supporting certificates as required

Once selected, beneficiaries will also receive technical training from the department. This includes scientific goat-rearing methods to maximize productivity and ensure long-term sustainability.

Government’s Commitment to Livestock-Based Income

The Uttar Pradesh government is focused on integrating animal husbandry with agriculture to provide diversified income streams for rural populations. The initiative is part of a broader strategy to enhance dairy output and strengthen the livestock economy of the state.

Dr. Kansal emphasized that such welfare schemes can transform the economic status of farmers, ensuring food security and empowering rural communities.
