New Delhi, April 5: Union Minister of State Dr. Jitendra Singh inaugurated the first specialized program for scientists and academics under the Karmayogi Mission framework on Sunday. This initiative aims to equip scientific and academic leaders with governance and decision-making skills.
The announcement was made during a special session of ‘Sadhana Week,’ where the minister highlighted the long-standing gap in administrative training for professionals in these fields.
He noted that many professionals often take on leadership roles without formal experience in governance processes, making structured training essential.
The new program is designed to systematically address this issue, reducing reliance on informal or self-study methods that can be irregular and time-consuming.
Dr. Singh emphasized that the training modules will evolve over time to align with emerging technologies like artificial intelligence (AI), ensuring a balance between technology and human judgment.
He also outlined new priorities for the Capacity Building Commission, which includes developing specific modules for distinct administrative tasks.
Additionally, he suggested launching a focused curriculum on parliamentary procedures to enhance procedural understanding among officials.
Brief training programs could also be developed to assist newly appointed civil servants and assistant secretaries in better understanding governance systems.
Highlighting a shift in approach, Singh stated that capacity building should move beyond rule-based systems to more flexible, role-based models.
He stressed the need to integrate private sector practices into governance, as traditional separations are no longer effective in today’s rapidly changing environment.
S. Radha Chauhan, chairperson of the Capacity Building Commission, echoed similar sentiments, stating that the next phase of the Karmayogi Mission will focus on making public institutions more adaptable and humane.
Chauhan emphasized the growing importance of artificial intelligence (AI), while also asserting that governance must remain citizen-centric.
She oversaw the signing of a memorandum of understanding to promote global knowledge sharing in capacity building between the Capacity Building Commission and the Research and Information System for Developing Countries.
