Goa govt gives approval to additional purchase of power from open market

Panaji, April 19 : Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant has given approval for the additional purchase of power from open market, a government official said on Tuesday. The government would be purchasing 120 MW of additional electricity which would be supplied to the industries in the state, the official added. Three industry associations in the coastal state had on Monday expressed concern over the sudden load shedding which they claimed was causing huge financial losses to the industry. “The industry is still to recover from the Covid aftermath, as well as the rising costs of raw materials. Running of generators, besides causing financial losses, also causes heavy environmental destruction,” Goa State Industries Association (GSIA), Goa Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GCCI) and Goa Pharmaceutical Manufacturers Associations (GPMA) had said on Monday. The associations had said that due to the current restrictions on load, the industry was running their ts with the help of generators which was proving to be a costly affair. They had suggested that to tide over the situation, the cost of purchasing additional electricity can be billed to EHT and HT consumers till the end of summer beginning June 2022. AKM GK
