Panaji, March 10 : Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) appears to be in a better position compared to the Congress according to the latest trends in the counting of votes which is underway in the state. According to the Election Commission, the BJP is leading on 19 seats, the Congress on 10 seats, Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party (MGP) on 4, Goa Forward Party (GFP) on 1 and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on 2, Revolutionary Goans Party (RGP) 1 and independents on 3. Among the important leaders, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant is leading in Sanquelim constituency, Leader of Opposition Digambar Kamat is leading in Margao constituency while Deputy Chief Minister Chandrakant Kavelkar trailing in Quepem constituency. There are 301 candidates from different political parties fighting for 40 seats in the legislative assembly. While counting of 19 constituencies is being held at Government Polytechnic College, Altinho, in Panaji, counting of 21 constituencies has been taken up at Comba, Margao, in South Goa. Meanwhile, BJP Goa General Secretary and NRI Commissioner Narendra Sawaikar claimed that history was in the making as the BJP was to form government in the coastal state for the third time. ”History in the making, as @BJP4India to form Govt. for the 3rd consecutive time in Goa!,” he tweeted.
